Auburn Maintenance Facility

The Auburn Maintenance Facility will be the maintenance centre for CityRail’s new Sydney suburban passenger trains.

Construction of the facility has commenced and is due for completion in 2009 in time to accept the first carriages into operational service in 2010.

The facility will incorporate world’s best practice in all elements of its design, construction and operation to ensure the highest levels of availability and reliability for Sydney’s new trains.

The $220 million design and construct project will provide a significant economic boost to the economy of Auburn in Sydney’s western suburbs, employing approximately 250 people during the peak period in 2008.

The facility’s operational lifespan will support an improved public transport service for Sydney, with approximately 100 people employed at the site to maintain the new fleet for RailCorp.

Reliance Rail is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the Auburn Maintenance Facility for RailCorp as part of the PPP Project.

The Auburn Maintenance Facility will be located on RailCorp land adjacent to the existing MainTrain Facility between Auburn and Clyde Railway Stations.

The site area extends approximately 2km in length and between 100-300m wide. The Maintenance Facility building will be approximately 200m long and 80m wide, including 1,600m2 of office and amenities space.

This state-of-the-art facility will consist of seven maintenance roads, a maintenance shed with a maintenance capacity for 1,000 cars, an automatic train wash plant and underfloor wheel profiling lathe.
