Downer EDI Rail will maintain the new fleet of trains at the Auburn Maintenance Facility on behalf of Reliance Rail, utilising its in-depth knowledge of the Sydney rail network operations.

Downer EDI Rail has maintained Sydney’s Millennium Trains on a daily basis for more than five years and has built the train’s reliability to the highest on the network.

The Auburn Maintenance Facility will be a pit-stop style maintenance centre with a focus on reducing downtime for maintenance of the new fleet to ensure the highest levels of availability and reliability.

From 2010, the following activities will be carried out at the facility for the life of the fleet:

• Stabling, presentation cleaning and readiness certification of trains
• Supporting RailCorp field operations
• Maintaining sets
• Washing sets
• Graffiti removal and vandalism damage repair.

Downer EDI Rail will maintain the new fleet by utilising a proven reliability centred maintenance regime. This sophisticated regime will enable a pool of on-site personnel to analyse the train’s performance data and identify any corrective maintenance before it arrives at the facility. This reduces the time the train is in maintenance and improves its operating availability and reliability performance.
