Reliance Rail

John Harkness, Chairman

Mr Harkness was appointed as Chairman of Reliance Rail on 1 February 2011. He was a partner of KPMG for 24 years and National Executive Chairman for five years. Since leaving KPMG in June 2000, Mr Harkness has held a number of non-executive director roles.

Mr Harkness is currently a director at Goodman Group, Charter Hall Retail REIT and Sinclair Knight Merz Management Pty Limited. He is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He brings extensive financial and business experience to the board.

Mervyn Peacock

Mr Peacock was appointed a director of Reliance Rail in April 2010.

Mr Peacock currently holds a number of Directorships including RXR Australia Managements Ltd, UniSuper Ltd and Chair of the Investment Committee, Riverland Water Pty Ltd, The Infrastructure Fund of India and Leichhardt Coal Ltd. He is also a member of ASIC’s External Advisory Committee. He was a member of the ASX Corporate Governance Committee from its formation in 2003 until March 2006.

Mr Peacock has had over 40 years domestic and international experience in a variety of investment areas, including Fund Management, Private Equity, Infrastructure and Property. Mr Peacock was Chief Investment Officer and a Director of AMP Capital Investors for five years until his retirement in January 2006.

Mr Peacock qualified as an Associate of the Australian Society of Accountants, is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Peacock was appointed as acting Reliance Rail chair from 25 October 2010 to 31 January 2011. 

Brad Williams

Brad Williams was appointed a director of Reliance Rail in March 2016. Mr Williams has over 13 years of accounting and investment experience and is responsible for the origination and management of existing investments across both transportation and university student accommodation sectors.

Mr Williams supported AMP Capital's expansion in a former role as the Chief Operating Officer for the global Infrastructure division and continues to be actively involved across the business. Further, Mr Williams has previously worked in the London office as a senior investment analyst with the European Investment Team.

Prior to joining AMP Capital, Mr Williams worked with Henderson Global Investors and BNP Paribas, both in London. Mr Williams holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and a Diploma in Computer Applications, both from the University of Wollongong, Australia and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Paul Ibbotson

Paul Ibbotson was appointed a director of Reliance Rail in September 2017. Mr Ibbotson has over 25 years of experience in infrastructure projects and investments, including in the PPP/PFI markets in Australia and the UK.

Mr Ibbotson leads Amber Infrastructure Group's investment business in Australia. He holds Directorships in Amber's projects in Australia in the transportation and social infrastructure sectors, including in Gold Coast Light Rail.

Prior to joining Amber Infrastructure, Mr Ibbotson worked with Babcock & Brown in various principal investment and advisory roles in the transportation and infrastructure sectors in several international jurisdictions. Mr Ibbotson holds graduate and post-graduate degrees in law at the University of Cambridge and is a qualified solicitor.

Jiren Zhou

Jiren Zhou was appointed a director of Reliance Rail in December 2017. Mr Zhou has over 14 years' experience in infrastructure investments, funds management and financial services.

At AMP Capital, Mr Zhou is responsible for executing new infrastructure investment opportunities and managing existing portfolio assets. He has led transactions in various infrastructure sectors including rolling stock, airport, energy & utility, logistics and social PPP in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Asia. Mr Zhou holds directorships in a number of PPP projects including Victorian Schools and Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison.

Prior to joining AMP Capital, Mr Zhou worked for Pacific Equity Partners, a leading Australian private equity manager. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master of Applied Finance degree, both from Macquarie University, Sydney. Mr Zhou is a qualified chartered accountant (Australia & NZ) and a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Peter Katz, Chief Executive Officer

Mr Katz was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Rail in January 2014. Mr Katz is the former Executive General Manager – Development for Lend Lease Services and has a wide experience in the infrastructure sector in Australia and internationally. This includes rail and transport projects, project finance, project management and delivery, risk management and operations and maintenance for both public and private organisations.

Previously, Mr Katz served as Group General Manager – Operations and Development for UGL Pty Ltd. Prior to that role he was CEO of the Parramatta Rail Link Company (TIDC) and National Manager Major Projects for Kinhill/ Brown & Root in Sydney.
